The Challenge

System design is a dense topic. Most resources feel dry or overly corporate. We needed a microsite that looked like it was built by devs, for devs while staying educational, structured, and performance-optimized.

Approach & Design Direction

I crafted a hand-drawn visual style from scratch, not as a gimmick, but as a deliberate choice to reflect how engineers think: sketching out systems, scribbling flows, and diagramming ideas in real time.

Design principles:

  • Sketch-first, dev-native look
  • Friendly yet technically confident tone
  • No sterile dashboards or templated grids
  • Bring system architecture to life through rough lines and raw structure

What I Delivered

  • UI/UX design for the full microsite
  • Custom hand-drawn illustrations for system design concepts
  • Art direction that emphasizes thinking > polish
  • Fully responsive design with clear CTAs and content hierarchy

Overview

I designed this microsite for Educative.io to promote their flagship “Grokking” courses. The goal: create a dev-native, zero-fluff landing experience that visually speaks to system design learners.
