Category Pages – Editorial Browsing Made Bold

Each category page (like PopCorner, Wanderlist, Nom-Nom) was designed to feel like a mini-publication within the platform. The goal was to balance hierarchy and visual impact while keeping things familiar for readers used to editorial content.

Key Design Decisions:

  • Large Hero Story: Each section opens with a bold feature story to instantly hook the reader and create topical urgency.

  • Consistent Grid Layout: Below the hero, articles follow a clear and modular grid, supporting both editorial depth and easy scroll behavior.

  • Smart Typography: Headline sizes and taglines were structured to guide scanning behavior and highlight story tags like Irish Insider, Business, or Culture.

  • Pagination: Clean, numbered pagination reinforces a sense of content depth without infinite scroll fatigue.

Landing Page Sectioning & Motion Design

To break away from the traditional blog layout, I designed the homepage of The Irish Insider as a series of bold, visual blocks, each one representing a distinct editorial vertical.

  • Custom Looping GIF Banners: Every section (like The Local Lens or World in Motion) opens with a unique animated illustration that captures the theme and tone of the content.

  • Color-Coded Sections: Visual hierarchy is established using bold color blocks and consistent typography to separate themes like culture, economy, and global affairs.

  • Modular Layout: Articles are displayed as cards beneath each section, making content skimmable while maintaining editorial depth.

This approach not only makes navigation effortless, it also reinforces brand identity and encourages deeper exploration. Users scroll, stop, and dive into topics based on their visual curiosity, not just headlines.
